President Uhuru Kenyatta has warned local contractors that they risk losing opportunities to get government contracts if they fail to meet deadlines or do shoddy jobs on projects.

President Kenyatta issued the warning on Saturday, 1 July when he launched the construction of the Kali- Nthungoni- Kikima- Kilyungi- Kithungo- Mbumbuni- Nduluku (Ngoluni) & Mbooni Forest( Mukaatini)- Kikima- Kyambalasi Roads at Kisau- Mbumbuni in Mbooni Constituency.

“Mr contractor, don’t let us down because you local contractors we’re giving you work but you’ve not been faithful. When we award the tenders to Chinese contractors, you blame the government that it’s not considering local contractors. If I come back here to find wananchi complaining about your work, your contract shall be terminated. We launch a project and you end up leaving the project stalled even after your payment is already done.” he said.

The President also asked the road contractor, Civicon co Ltd, to give casual work to the locals especially the youths.

The president said that the tendering process of Tawa- Ngoluni- Itangini Road is already done, and the construction works should start in one month’s time.

He was accompanied by Deputy president William Ruto, Mike Sonko, the area MP Michael Kisoi Munyao among other leaders.
