More of the ongoing Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examination papers continued to be in circulation, putting in doubt the credibility of the exams and national examiner.
The papers are leaked days before students do them even as Education Cabinet secretary Jacob Kaimenyi and KNEC CEO Joseph Kivilu remained in denial and urged candidates to ignore the reports.
This year’s leakage, considered the worst in the KCSE history, has attracted the attention of some Members of Parliament, who now demand the immediate disbandment of Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) for allegedly failing in its mandate.
Mbooni MP Kisoi Munyao, who is also a member of parliamentary Committee on Education, revealed the House team will press for the disbandment of Knec over the leakage.
Addressing school heads and their deputies when he distributed bursary cheques worth Sh14 million in Tawa town, Hon Kisoi said plans are already underway to introduce a motion to disband the council.
“It is quit disturbing that KNEC has, up to date, not come up with comprehensive strategies on how to stop cheating and leakages. Either the council is becoming incompetent or certain individuals are trying to sabotage its good work,”said MP Kisoi, adding that the leakages negatively affect the integrity of the Kenyan education system.
KNEC on Wednesday last week denied leakage reports, terming the circulating papers as works of fraudsters luring students with fake papers.
Kivilu urged students to pay no regard to the “rumours” even as he assured that the council is working with security agencies to curb cheating and other irregularities. Kaimenyi claimed no one has presented evidence to prove the circulating exams are genuine.
